New Hope For People Suffering From Ptsd
Our experiences, actions, and the choices we make follow us through life
. Few people live their entire life without experiencing and feeling the emotions of sadness, trauma, doubt, aggression, shame, and hopelessness. Yet, some people experience these feelings more regularly or they are more sensitive due to severe traumatic experiences. In these cases, they may suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Victims of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder otherwise known as PTSD will typically feel isolated, uneasy, and sometimes aggressive toward themselves and others for no apparent reason. Understanding PTSD and incorporating psychotherapeutic PTSD treatment is the first step to a full recovery and achieving wholeness again.
You are not alone. PTSD victims often feel that their problems are theirs alone and no one can help or guide them. They find themselves going crazy even when outside stressors are minimal. For years the term PTSD was reserved primarily for war veterans who through their experiences and actions in war made them unstable time bombs. The truth is that people from all walks of life and experiences are susceptible to PTSD and its debilitating effects. A victim of a violent car accident will commonly feel stress or anxiety for years following, at every intersection or highway on-ramp. For some, travel outside their neighborhood and even their home becomes impossible. Low self-esteem is another symptom that victims carry with them based sometimes on single incidents of embarrassments or rejections. The key is for patients to understand why and how intense stressful situations impact their daily living, and to let them overcome these obstacles by learning how their body reacts and deals with these obstacles. The right PTSD treatment can provide a framework of understanding and recuperation for the patient.
There are treatments available for sufferers of PTSD. New and emerging PTSD treatments focus on finding the root of the problem and treating it so that the patient can learn to effectively deal with and overcome the emotional obstacles that confront them. This is a dramatic improvement from past treatments, which act to mask the symptoms of the problem with medications. New technologies include emerging brain scan technology and neuropsychological testing that can pinpoint conscious and unconscious stressors that cause the cycle of self-deprecation that continue to haunt someone affected by PTSD. By identifying these root issues, doctors and counselors can make adjustments to stabilize the emotions of patients suffering from PTSD. They create an individualized framework for each patient to empower a long-term, healthy recovery.
