New York style pizza is an old dish that was first popularized in New York City as far back as the 1900s. These consist of various cheeses such as mozzarella, ricotta, parmesan and provolone, meats such as ham and salami, vegetables such as tomato, and garlic. After the stuffing has been added, the dough is folded over it in a crescent shape and sealed along the open edge. It is salted and then baked in the oven. Upon serving, marinara sauce is offered on the side.

Stromboli is another dish very similar to calzone. It is said to have been named after a popular 1950 film starring Ingrid Bergman. Like calzone, stromboli is a kind of turnover made of pizza dough and stuffed with various types of cheeses, deli meats, sausages and vegetables. Strombolis are not folded over and sealed, though. They are instead rolled. Another difference between calzone and stromboli is the sauce. Calzone is served with the marinara sauce on the side while stromboli contains the sauce within its filling.

Pasta, of course, is a widely known dish well loved by young and old alike. It can come in various types such as spaghetti, fettuccini and ziti. Popular sauces are marinara and white sauce with various combinations of meat, seafood and vegetables.
