Nex Flow Air Products Corp. Describe About Their Vortex Tube
It is amazing to see that the Vortex Tube has been used in so many ways
, and yet still remains a scientific puzzle. Since the time of 18th century James Clerk Maxwell (father of electromagnetism), the molecular separation between hot and cold particles inside this pipe continues to be a mystery. This special device is frequently seen in industrial sites, where is much need for spot cooling, although it is slowly making its way into consumer products, mainly household items, and of course, automobiles.
The
Vortex Tube has these major parts. First is the entry nozzle, through which the compressed air is supplied. It is usually near the cold exhaust of the tube, and at the opposite side is the hot exhaust, where there is a valve switch, in the shape of a cone. This valve can be loosened or tightened, depending on desired temperatures. Also known as Ranque-Hilsch pipes, vortex tubes virtually relies on no parts inside to do its trick.
When high pressure air enters the Vortex Tube, it spins toward the hot exhaust, all the time increasing in speed and temperature. Upon hitting the valve, some of the hot air escapes through, and an inner vortex is created running towards the opposite direction. As the new vortex travels to the other end, a transfer of energy occurs. The initial, outer vortex loses speed and heat in nanoseconds, creating an equal and opposite force in the form of a cold stream of air.
Vortex Tube is reputed to be efficient in the use of energy, while providing reliable cooling capacity. In some production plants, it is also seen as a pump to generate heat. The drying process in most cases, usually takes a considerable time, lengthening production cycles and even causing delays. But with vortex tubes giving immediate drying, much time is saved, as well as cost. In offices, these pipes are also used to regulate heat inside computer mainframes, as well as electrical main switches.
This device is also known to have the ability of separating mixed gases, such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen, oxygen, and helium. It can be a handy skill with today's prevalent air pollution. Recently, it has been tested to separate liquids as well. Although already giving off sufficient cooling temperatures, the Vortex Tube has yet to produce ice. It is yet another puzzle to solve when it comes to this already mysterious pipe.
