Nfl Tickets - Fantasy: Ranking The Running Backs

Here is how I see the Top 10 fantasy running backs heading into the 2010 season

, listed in order:

Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings: Most people are going with Chris Johnson atop their rankings, but I trust Peterson more. Johnson had a heck of a workload in 2009 and is not the biggest of backs; he's only handled a full workload for one season and had a lot of carries in college. I think there is more risk in Johnson than there is in Peterson, who should once again be the focal point of the Minnesota offense now that Brett Favre is retired.

Chris Johnson, Tennessee Titans: Though selecting Johnson comes with risk, as I outlined above, he can't slip any further than second in my rankings. He's arguably the most electric player in the league, sells tons of NFL tickets and has the most upside of any fantasy player.

Maurice Jones-Drew, Jacksonville Jaguars: Jones-Drew preformed very well in his first season as the full-time back in Jacksonville, but he wore down a bit toward the end of the season. I expect Pocket Hercules to have his best season yet in 2010, which could potentially make him the best fantasy player in the game if things go right.

Ray Rice, Baltimore Ravens: Rice broke out in a big way last season, establishing himself as a versatile threat and the focal point of the Ravens offense. He might see a few less catches in 2010 with Anquan Boldin aboard, but the offense as a whole should be improved, which should mean better overall production for the speedy back. Rice could lose out on some goal line carries, but he's a stud.

Steven Jackson, St. Louis Rams: This is where the rankings start to get tricky. I'm going with Jackson because he was a steady force in 2009 even in a struggling offense. The Rams should improve on that side of the ball at least a little, and I like how Jackson produces on a week-to-week basis.

Frank Gore, San Francisco 49ers: Gore could be in line for a big 2010 season. He's the main option in an improving offense and has little competition for carries. The Niners drafted two offensive linemen in the first round this offseason in order to improve their blocking, which could work wonders for Gore's game.

Michael Turner, Atlanta Falcons: Turner was quite solid before suffering an injury last season. Word is that he's in fantastic shape coming into 2010 and could be poised for a monster fantasy season similar to his 2008 campaign. He should be a touchdown machine at the very least, though he does lose some value in PPR leagues.

Shonn Greene, New York Jets: This may be a little higher than you would expect for him, but I think Greene is in a great situation. He'll be running behind the best offensive line in the league in an offense that is extremely run-heavy. I don't believe that LaDainian Tomlinson will affect Greene's production much. Tomlinson is a better receiver out of the backfield, but he's not much of a runner anymore and shouldn't steal goal line carries away from the bigger and more powerful Greene.

Rashard Mendenhall, Pittsburgh Steelers: I'm a little worried about Mendenhall's production because defenses could conceivably stack the box against the Steelers until Ben Roethlisberger comes back from suspension. However, Mendenhall has the ability to be a star and could be worth the risk toward the end of the first round or early in the second.

Cedric Benson, Cincinnati Bengals: I wouldn't argue with Ryan Grant or DeAngelo Williams here, but I think Benson is the best bet to have a solid season worthy of this ranking. The Cincy passing game should be better in 2010, which would open things up for Benson the ground. As long as he can hold up for a full season and keep Bernard Scott at bay, Benson should be a nice fantasy option.
