Nfl Tickets - Wide Receiver Tiers
Here is how I would group the top receivers for fantasy football in 2010:
Group A:
Andre Johnson, Houston Texans: Johnson is the only fantasy player that is the consensus number one guy at his position. You just can't rationalize taking any other receiver if Johnson is still on the board. He could go in the Top 5 in some fantasy drafts, especially in PPR leagues. Johnson is nearly a lock to haul in 100 balls and gain 1500-plus yards, but there is also upside for more yards and an increase in touchdowns. He's a beast.
Group B:
Randy Moss, New England Patriots: With Tom Brady back to 100 percent health , the New England passing game could again be one that sells NFL tickets like hot cakes. Moss is entering a contract year, which should ensure maximum effort on his part, and he could have a huge season as a result. He could end up being the top receiver in fantasy in 2010, but you can't take him over Johnson.
Group C:
Calvin Johnson, Detroit Lions: I'm higher on Calvin Johnson than most people coming into the 2010 season. With Matthew Stafford entering his second season in the pros, I think he's ready to elevate Johnson to an elite fantasy wideout. The presence of new offensive weapons like Nate Burleson, Tony Scheffler and Jahvid Best should help distract defenses a bit, and that should be all Johnson needs.
Reggie Wayne, Indianapolis Colts: Wayne had a very good fantasy season in 2009 but tapered off toward the end of the year. However, he's still the number one option in one of the best passing games in the league, albeit one that gives Peyton Manning a lot of options.
Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona Cardinals: Matt Leinart has not looked good this preseason, which hurts Larry's value, but he's so good that one has to think he'll find a way to produce regardless of the quarterback play. Don't expect typical Fitzgerald numbers, but he's still good enough to make this tier.
Group C:
Brandon Marshall, Miami Dolphins: Marshall is as reliable as they come from a fantasy standpoint. He catches a ton of passes and has a knack for finding the end zone. It may take a little while for him to develop chemistry with Chad Henne, but it didn't take long with Kyle Orton last season, so I wouldn't expect the learning curve to be too steep.
Miles Austin, Dallas Cowboys: Austin came out of nowhere to establish himself as the Cowboy's number one receiver in 2009. He's a precise route runner with good hands and solid big play ability. Tony Romo has a lot of options, but Austin will get his targets.
Roddy White, Atlanta Falcons: If White can still fare as well as he did in a down year for the Atlanta offense last season, just imagine what he could do if that unit bounces back in 2010, which a lot of people are expecting them to do.
Group D:
Greg Jennings, Green Bay Packers: There's no way Jennings struggles to score the way he did in 2009. Aaron Rodgers is only getting better and the Packers figured out how to better use Jennings down the stretch last season. With an improving offensive line, expect a big year from Jennings.
Marques Colston, New Orleans Saints: Drew Brees likes to spread the ball around, but Colston is still his favorite target. He might not rack up a ton of yards, but his size makes him a great red zone target.
Steve Smith, Carolina Panthers: Smith is coming off an injury this offseason, but he and Matt Moore appeared to have good chemistry down the stretch last season. Smith could end up being a steal this season if he stays healthy and Moore performs well.
