Nigerians reject Vice President as the next President Elect
According to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
, the Vice President automatically becomes President if the incumbent president resigns or dead but some political elite along with some unidentified group have rejected the Vice President as the President elect. The reason behind the refusal of the Vice President Goodluck Jonathan as the next President elect is simple that he is from the South-South region of Nigeria; the group stated that it is not yet time for the south south to rule Nigeria but the time for the Northern Nigeria. The former governor aspirantof the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in Kebbi state, Alhaji Hassan Kangiwa has made his position known about the next President of Nigeria and said that the Vice president would make no impact in the present political situation in Nigeria but rather will worsen Nigeria condition. While speaking further, the former gubernatorial candidate distanced himself from those calling for President Umaru Musa YarAdua to resign and hand over to the Vice President. Insisting that what Nigerians should do was to wish the ailing President a quick recovery because if the President resigns or dead it will pose a great constitutional conflict which may lead to another civil war in Nigeria or the return of the Military regime. Handing over to the Vice President would not change the present political situation of the countryrather; the same group of people would remain in the corridor of power and continue to 'milk' the country dry and that is if the handover is successful but if not Nigeria may experience another civil war. Alhaji Kangiwa also expressed his concern for a free and fair election come 2011 which if not achievable, the country will continue to experience a dwindling political and economic development. He addedthat if that were to be achieved, Nigeria would be most grateful to its leaders. An unidentified political group stressed the fact that if the Vice President of Nigeria is allowed to be the President he will split up Nigeria into three parts and transfer the wealth of Nigeria to his region. The group stated that Nigeria would not be comfortable with the Vice President becoming the president of Nigeria, as the Vice President is nothing but a ceremonial President and would do more harm to Nigeria than good. Just as it always quoted that Africa is in a hurry but Nigeria is in a haste and the funniest thing is that they are rushing to nowhere. Nigeria should wait until the President Umaru Musa YarAdua is declared dead or resigned before calling for who to be the next President.
