Night Vision Assistant Now On The Audi A6

Auto manufacturers are forever coming up with clever ways to help the driver to do their job behind the wheel more safely

. The latest of these is the Night Vision assistant, which is available as an option on the A6.

The Night Vision system adds an additional layer of safety to driving in the dark by spotting things on and near the road that are beyond the range of the headlights and displaying them on a dashboard screen. This latest technology from Audi is designed to reduce the number of road accidents that occur in the dark. The cost of this technology is a small price to pay for optimal safety.

The driver is shown a view of the road, with people highlighted in yellow (the system detects them by the heat that they give off). Should they start to move toward the road they will turn red, warning the driver of a potential collision ahead of them.

A short video produced by Audi in North America to highlight the technology has done so well virally that the company now intends to broadcast it on cable TV in the States. The A6 is available in nine different engines. The basic engine is 2.0 litre TFSI engine followed by 4 other petrol engine which are 2.8, 3.2, 3.0 and 4.2 litre. There are also 4 different diesel engine in which two are 2.0 litre engine producing either 136 or 170bhp, the third is a 2.7 litre V6 and the fourth 3.0 litre V6.
