When I travel outside the UK I really miss the British news and TV shows. It does seem crazy that the moment I leave the boundaries of the UK that I can't watch BBC Iplayer on the internet. The reason this happens is primarily down to a technique called geotargeting, which quite simply is mainly used to restrict access to a web site depending on the location of your IP address.
So even if you are a UK resident, if you're outside the United Kingdom you'll get blocked when you try and watch BBC Iplayer anywhere else.

Fortunately there is, you see the fancy sounding technology that blocks your access to these web sites is actually not very clever. All it does is look up the IP address you connect with in a big list and see what country you are from. So the trick is to make the web site think you're actually based in the UK.
The Trick
It's actually quite straight forward, you need to hide your real IP address from the BBC site. As thousands have discovered if you use a proxy or VPN server which is based in the UK you'll have no problem connecting at all. The BBC website will see your UK based IP address and allow you access.
Any Free Ways to Watch IPlayer Abroad?
If you have a server or PC left on in the UK that you can connect to then you should be fine. You can create a tunnel back to this machine and use that to connect to the BBC website. You can also search on the internet for free UK proxies to try and find one that you can use for free. Be ready to spend hours searching every time you want to watch something though as they are very slow and difficult to find.

I personally want something quick, simple to use and most of all doesn't cost a fortune. Fortunately I managed to find one system that allows me to hide my IP address and watch programmes all over the world including BBC Iplayer all for a small subscription.
