No More Ply Has Made Plywood A Thing Of The Past When It Comes To Tiling

No more ply is a revolutionary building material that has been developed as an alternative

to natural plywood to act as a backing board upon which tiles can be laid.

Whereas plywood has been used up until now, the problem with it is that it is not impervious to water and therefore when it gets wet, it can expand and contract, eventually becoming distorted, which is precisely what you don't need when it is this substrate upon which your neat and tidy tiling is fixed.

Professional plumbers and builders have been quick to recognise the advantages of no more ply, but it is also being used more increasingly in the DIY market because it is the perfect foundation upon which tiles can be laid. But it's not just its water resistant characteristics that make it so useful. Here's a short list of some other advantages that no more ply offers:

-It has excellent impact resistance meaning that it's is very difficult to damage making it safe to transport and store.

-It also has excellent temperature resistance and therefore can be used safely in conjunction with any under-floor heating systems.

-Where thickness is important you can use the thinnest variety which is only 6 mm thick. It is also available in 9 mm and 12 mm thickness's.

-Because of its handy sheet size it will easily fit into most small cars and vans. Please note that it should be kept flat.

-Although it contains absolutely no asbestos, it has excellent fire resistance characteristics and will not burn.

-It's also a great insulator, meaning that it filters sound and is therefore extremely useful as a wall cladding material in apartments etc.

-It is very user-friendly and can be cut with an ordinary scoring night. For those difficult shapes and profiles it can also become very easily with a small jigsaw.

-Each sheet of no more ply can easily be fixed to any floor or wall using a small amount of mega strength polyurethane adhesive, and eight fixing screws.

-You will find it extremely cost-effective, (A) because it is very affordable, and (B) it is fast to lay thereby cutting down on the cost of labour time.

In terms of its usability it doesn't require any special training or any special tools and retreated in effect exactly the way that you were treated its predecessor - real plywood. I have a great advantage with using no more ply is that it helps to eliminate the growth of fungus.

Coming back to plywood, many builders use marine grade plywood to try and overcome this problem, but that then you have to use sheets were 15 mm thick and whilst this was not only expensive, it could also create a trip hazard.

But with no more ply, because of its fantastic resistance to water, and the thinness of the sheets, both of these problems have been overcome. No more ply is available from most good Tiler's merchants.
