Who amongst us does not want to look young? As we get older the changes to our face
and body can be a source of distress as our youthfulness disappears down the gurgler. We could buy expensive creams and lotions or we could get more serious with surgical options, injections or chemical peels but are they the best options we have to starve off the aging process so we can hold on tight to our youthfulness a bit longer?
We all know about the health benefits of exercise. Losing weight, keeping stress at bay, increasing our strength and fitness and disease proofing our body are all benefits we are familiar with. But now, researchers are saying that exercise, specifically strength training also helps you remain young and is possibly the cheapest and most effective anti-aging formula available.
Firstly, it is hard to look youthful without strong toned muscles. They pad your skin out from underneath so the skin is held firm and taut and wrinkles are minimized. If your muscles are strong they hold your skeleton in a strong upright position that oozes youth and vitality. Weak flabby muscles from a lack of muscle building activity allow your posture to slump and sag adding years to your looks.
Proper exercise also increases the levels of youthful hormones such as 'growth and repair' hormones to help us look younger from deep down at cellular level. If levels are not adequate you age much faster. The signs of this are becoming more wrinkled from loss of muscle tissue, loss of strength and energy and an ever increasing waistline from the slowing of the metabolism (the body's engine).
Strength training exercise keeps muscles strong and toned and this is what keeps your metabolic motor running at a youthful speed rather than dwindling to that of an aging old engine that has lost its power. Having a healthy metabolism will give you lots of energy so you actually want to be active not only doing your intentional exercise program 2-3 times each week but living an active recreational lifestyle as well.
A recent study of a group of women who performed strength training exercise twice a week revealed after 12 months of training their bodies were 15 to 20 years more youthful. They had more firm muscle tissue and less body fat. Bone loss prevented and even reversed and their strength, energy and vitality had increased.
No other diet plan, 'cardio' exercise program, pill, medication, hormone has ever achieved comparable results. So, jump on the band wagon and get yourself started on a proper strength training program. You will keep you body and mind in top shape and provide yourself with the strength, energy and stamina to pursue all those things you enjoy and that life has to offer.
Not only will you be promoting your own longevity you will be improving the quality of your life as well. You will look young and feel young regardless of your age.
