Nokia Moves One Of Its Factories To Asia

Back in 2008 there existed a huge scandal concerning the closure of a Nokia factory in Germany

. The people residing in the town affected by the closure of the plant went on strike and even sued Nokia. That had been the starting point in the migration of Nokia industrial facilities to the east.

That year Nokia opened up a whole new plant in Romania, in the municipality of Jucu. Located in the West of Romania the place was close enough to the Western regions and Nokia took advantage of the low-cost work power that was in Romania. Since then Nokia introduced several cell phone deals were released on the Western marketplace. Most of the mobile phones were created in Romania and Nokia obtained substantial profits.

Today, Nokia thinks that the work force from Romania is too expensive and it plans to abandon this country as well. They really are going to shut the manufacturing facility in Jucu at the start of 2012 and move it to a country in Asia, possibly China or India. It is sad that big corporations as Nokia prefer to leave the European Union while the financial situation looks grim. They should think twice regarding closing a manufacturing plant that cost 60 million Euros and which was regarded as by far the most advanced and environmental friendly in all of European countries. Moreover, they should remember the fact that more than 2000 individuals will remain without a working place and their households will be affected.

Nokia is not thinking clear. They just look at their profits and want to make the most from the cell phone deals that they are likely to launch in the foreseeable future. I understand that the production costs are reduced in China, but there are many people in European countries that don't have where to work because of this. All the major corporations are likely to close their manufacturing premises in the Western world and relocate to the Far East. This is simply not good! This approach can lead to a planetary turmoil if China opts to close its borders.

All the cellular phone producers should program their production thoroughly and preserve their present industrial facilities. I think that on a long term they will make the same profits with the existing industrial facilities. They simply need to be more revolutionary and develop less costly ways to manufacture the great phones! Nokia hasn't unveiled any competitive smart phones on the market up to now. It is time they move ahead and build powerful phones similar to HTC or Samsung.
