. These phones are capable of running video files, playing audio and taking high quality pictures as well as managing your emails, editing documents and giving presentations. The phones in the N series are truly remarkable to be able to perform all these features.

The Nokia N900 and Nokia N97 mini are two of the more recent additions to the N series. Both these devices come with high end specifications and perform well in nearly all aspects. Let's compare the two and see which mobile phones performs better in which field.

Hardware

The N97 mini runs on an 434 MHz ARM11 processor, which despite being impressive, does not hold a candle to N900's OMAP (generation 3) 3430 processor running at 600MHz. Apart from having a superior processor, the N900 also has graphics acceleration, which will come into play when games or other applications which require graphics are used. Coming to the screen resolution, the N900 wins once again with its 3.5 inch wide screen and a resolution of 800x480 pixels compared to 640x360 pixel resolution of N97 mini.

The biggest difference, however, lies in the RAM difference. N97 mini has a RAM of 128 MB, whereas the N900 has twice that amount with 256 MB RAM. This makes it easier to run multiple applications on the N900. The lack of RAM is the biggest flaw of N97 mini. The N900 also has 768MB of virtual memory, which means that it will have 1GB of application memory available.

Software

The N97 runs on a Symbian S60 V5 operating system which has received much criticism for being Just a port from v3 with added touch support and not really suited as a modern touch operating system. The N900 on the other hand, uses the Linux based Maemo 5. The Maemo 5 will enable multi tasking and a modern user interface with 3D effects, menu transitions, etc. Since it is based on Linux, this OS offers endless configuration possibilities and a wide range of third-party software support.

Typing

Both the N97 and the N900 sport slide out QWERTY keyboard that enables fast and easy typing. However, the N90 mini has a keyboard, which when take out, pops up at a 30 degree angle. Thus, making typing and viewing the screen very enjoyable
