Good but not yet great
THE GOOD: Fast scans and it doesn't use much resources so I noticed only a little slowdown when scanning
THE BAD: (1)When it finds a problem and fixes it, it will repeatedly list it during the following scans making you think that you have a reocurring or new issue, but all it is doing is re-reading the "Quarantine List", until you manually delete the Quarantine List.
(2) "Vulnerability Protection" apparently lists every application that Norton is designed to protect, however it makes you think that it is listing all the installed applications that it is protecting? This is confusing and misleading. A list of what is being protected on my computer would be much better.
MOST IMPORTANT: I don't know how well it fixes serious infections since I have been clean since installing it.

Norton Internet Security - None Better!
I bought this product having meant to buy Norton Internet Security 2010. I had Norton 2009 Internet Security on the computer. Norton upgraded me to version 2010 automatically. i have been a computer user since 1986 and have tried a bunch of Internet Security programs. Norton Internet Security 2010 is the best hands down! I am running Vista on my computer with 2 gigs of memory and Norton hardly slows my computer down. I will buy Norton Internet Security 2011 when it comes out. Put me down for an automatic upgrade for next year. You have the best software!

Norton Antivirus 2010 worked well on the one year old ATX emachine, but when I tried to install it on my 2000 DELL 8200 laptop that has never had any Windows XP service pack installed, Norton said don't install unless Service Pack 2 has been installed. Will have to download Service Packs 1 & 2 to emachine folder, and USB transfer cable Windows updates to the DELL laptop.

I know Norton Antivirus may not be #1 software but it has improved a lot over past few years. This latest one 2010 is really good. I have a basic operational computer knowledge so I leave the default setting as is. I aslo trust Norton for their fast response to any new threats. I buy this product on the internet (reputed company only) and am quite happy.Fortunately I never had any problems of infection (touch wood, please)!
The only bad thing about Norton is they do NOT have live customer support and I think that is a big mistake on their marketing part!

Great Product!
I have been using this for a few months now and it is the best AV product I have used. Very low resource/memory usage and does not slow down the system. And for everyone complaining about the "One Year" shut down... did you not read the description??? This is a "One Year License"!!! It warns you well in advance before your subscription expires, and using Virus Protection that is not up to date is almost as bad as none at all. If you think an outdated Virus Program will protect you... when you go for your flu shot, tell them you want the "bird-flu" shot instead of the "H1N1"......

Used NAV for years-no problems-but backup your drives!
At the outset I should say that I'm 65, have used a PC since they first came out, and perhaps I'm too set in my ways. Nonetheless, I've used Norton AV since its inception way back in the 1980's (ever heard of DOS, Peter Norton or the Norton Utilities). I've never had any serious problems with the program, but along with it for a long time I have also used an anti-spyware program (currently Webroot Spysweeper), the Mozilla Foxfire internet browsor (in place of Interet Explorer), an internet browser anti-malware add-on (McAfee Site Advisor) and a backup program (currently Norton Ghost). As far as I know I've never "caught" a virus or other malware while using this combination.
While I haven't had problems with NAV and never used their tech support, I've read that Norton's tech support is pretty bad, although perhaps getting better, and that the program takes up too much space on the hard drive. But I've also seen comparative reviews in the major PC magazines that show Norton to be one of the most effective AV programs available. That's why I've stuck with it. And contrary to some reviews, I've found that when your annual subscription runs out, NAV continues to function - it just doesn't update your virus definitions until you renew the program for another year.
But while I have been satisfied with Norton AV, I was not happy with Norton 360, which is supposed to be a comprehensive AV, spyware and email protector program. I can't remember what my issues were with it, but after trying it I quickly reverted to Norton AV plus a separate spyware program, etc.
If you use NAV be sure to uninstall any other AV programs before installing it (you might use the free Revo Uninstaller for this). And remember that if you already have a virus on your PC it's probably too late for NAV, or any other AV program, to do you much good. And always backup your PC regularly and especially before installing any AV program. Also, be sure to check out articles on PC security on the websites of PC World, PC Magazine or elsewhere.
P.S.
An alternative to using commercial antivirus or anti-malware programs is, at least for Windows Vista or Windows 7, to download and install Microsoft's free Security Essentials program, which is a comprehensive anti-malware program. Just as an experiment I've recently replaced NAV & Webroot Spysweeper with MS Security Essentials. So far so good - the PC feels a little quicker than before, although that may be an illusion.
