Nu folk meets traditional folk debut album from Son of Eagle

Nu Folk band 'Son of Eagle', to release debut album 'From the Ground', a creative journey using organic sounds and haunting harmonies.

Tracks from this beautifully crafted folk album have already been previewed during a live studio session for BBC Nottingham. Fans of traditional and nu folk are calling Son of Eagle one of the most exciting new bands of 2011.

Due for release on 29/03/11 by Expat Records, this debut album will strike a cord with fans of Mumford and Sons and James Taylor, and has already being described as a refreshing and alternative take on the currently popular folk culture.

In 2009, lead singer and guitarist of Son of Eagle, Ben Edmonds, embarked on a mission to bring traditional folk meets nu folk with a tang of country flavour to the UK market. Together with Dean Collier, the other fast-fingered guitarist, he created poignant music that would touch the hearts and minds of many listeners. Requiring more sonorous, tight-knit harmonies to their music, Sarah Lloyd was invited to join them on Viola and Violin. With the final touch, Phil Thompson on Bass guitar, the heart and musical spark of Son of Eagle was created.

Following excellent gigs and revelling in the success of their first EP Take Me Back, Son of Eagle soon realised it was time to create their first album, From the Ground. As with their EP, all recordings were through one microphone; although not at the same time. Experimenting with different sounds and timbres produced by each instrument was a vital ingredient for the creation of the album; Sarah found the microphone only centimetres away from her face, incredibly close to her bow, encouraging the rich overtones of the strings to come through, whilst Ben discovered his bathroom was the perfect acoustic to give his vocals the essential haunting sound needed for Sunlight. The album, from the first song through to the last, demonstrates a real creative journey for the band. The album title From the Ground perfectly represents the organic nature of album - there are no adjustments to note pitch, it has a fresh quality with every second carefully thought through.

Writing and producing expressive music with haunting melodies and close harmonies, whilst using only one microphone, is something that seems to come naturally to Son of Eagle an unusual feat for any upcoming band.

Son of Eagle takes the albums listener on a voyage of discovery through hints of country, traditional and nu folk music. Bursting with refreshing sounds, the album is comparable to those of Mumford and Sons and James Taylor.
