FEDERAL NURSING GRANTS

The US Department of Health and Human Services offers nursing grants such as Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students for financially struggling students. It supports programs like veterinary, medical education, dental hygiene and occupational therapy courses.

Nursing Scholarship Program

The nursing scholarship program is granted to over 200 students who are required to work for at least 2 years after degree completion at specified institutions. The grant pays for tuition fee and offers a living expenses stipend as well. Only full time undergraduate students are eligible for this grant.

Pell Grant

Available since 1972, Pell grants are given to students who have low incomes. Using it in conjunction to the US Department of Health and Human Services grant may provide you with the required funds for college.

Many state governments offer a variety of grants for nursing students. For example, Nurse Scholars Programs in North Carolina receives 300 awards to help students studying in state recognized programs. These grants are merit based and are offered for both graduate and undergraduate programs.

Minority Grants

Minority nursing grants are available for minorities to pay for college education. Most of these grants are provided by educational institutions and nonprofit firms.

Nursing Firms

The American Association of Nurse Anesthetics offers grants to nurse anesthetics that plan to conduct research. Moreover, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners finances students who plan to practice nursing and the Emergency Nurses Foundation Association funds nurses that work in the Emergency Rooms.

Many grants are targeted towards specific colleges. If you haven't decided the type of nursing program you will get yourself enrolled in, then you may qualify for many different grants.

Grants Depending on Income

If you can prove that you belong to a low income family, you may qualify for income based grants that provide you additional funds for your education.
