Dog parks: As an apartment dweller, your canine will appreciate the long stretches of running space and fellow four-legged camaraderie of dog parks. Many of these parks are completely fenced in making it easy to let your dog run. Bonus: Dog park fees include multiple parks, including non-dog parks, and are relatively inexpensive. Great for: Dog lovers, outdoors lovers

Boat Rental: For up to $10 a day, you can rent a rowboat, pedal boat, canoe, kayak, or electric motor boat for a day of fun on the water. Great for: Athletic people, groups

Mushroom Hunting: Now this is something I never saw myself doing, but is apparently a pretty popular hobby. There are a few guidelines to keep the park safe, but other than that--free food! Great for: Healthy-eaters, people on a budget

Horseback Riding: To be honest I rode horses at Oakland County parks a kid; so this isnt necessarily a new surprising amenity. Riding horses is a great way to relax outdoors. Great for: Groups, nature lovers
