Office Culture And Modular Stations
We have all seen stereotypical depictions of offices with office cubicles
. In my mind I am picturing rows upon rows of similarly dressed men and women typing away at their computers, pale from not having gotten a lot of sun on their skin. They look like living, breathing automatons as opposed to human beings. No one is speaking to one another, all they are doing is typing away on their desktop computers about who knows what. Each one of them is isolated from their coworkers and seemingly, the rest of the world. While this clearly is an over exaggerated depiction of life in an office, there are some truths to it.
No one wants to be cooped anywhere, let alone a tiny space that you are required to sit in and work for seven hours or more a day for five days a week or even longer. That type of seclusion is rarely a good thing and to be isolated from your other colleagues is enough to foster lack of communication and fellowship with them. This lack of a strong working relationship can lead to problems cooperating if group projects need to done and can also lead to strained relationships between coworkers. A group dynamic has to built in order for people to work as a team and it is hard to build upon a relationship when there is, quite literally, a wall in-between everyone. How can two or more people work together when neither knows the other's personalities, special skill sets, work ethic, and so on? Easy answer: they cannot.
Modular workstations allow for a more open, cooperative environment without sacrificing workers' ability to effectively complete their tasks. Modular stations tend to have a desk space, storage units, and space enough for an employee to store his or her belongings. There are barely any high walls to prevent workers from seeing one another. While some people may think this is a recipe for unproductiveness, it should be seen as a way to foster camaraderie between fellow employees. The only way a group of people will become a team is to work closely together and become trusting and loyal to one another; modular office furniture helps in this regard.
Modular workstations not only act as cost-effective and useful office seating, they are a way for professionals to not only do their work but bond with their nearby colleagues. This make them valuable office products.
