I had been to an old age home in Vasai as a part of my Political concepts project. At first, I thought that I would just visit the main in charge, do my part of work and leave. However, as she was a little busy, I decided to go and visit the old people over there. It is quite a big home with 37 old people living in it.

I was born and brought up in Mumbai. Right from my birth, I have never experienced the love of ma grandparents as they were in ma native Goa. Thus, I am deprived of grandparents love and I always thought that they were irritating whenever I would meet them.

I would purposely make noise so that my granny would not sleep, as I believed she hated me, so I in turn did what she deserved. I was never there for my grandparent's death, nor did their death made me sad. Years passed by and today, they are not an important part of my life. I had never seen the sad part of their life until I went to this home for the aged. It is just the happiness you see on their faces once they see you. They probably miss their grandchildren and children. Mostly all of their children were well settled, and dumped their parents in this home because they could not give them the time or may be felt that they were a burden to them. It was a sorrowful sight to see those old people taking your hand and feeling them with tears in their eyes. It made me wonder that how could anyone be so cruel and dump their parents in d old age homes when they know that they were the ones who brought them up and it is because of them that they are what they are. The ones who held their hand when they needed support, and today their own children are not giving them any kind of support when they need them. I just hope in future I do not come in to such a situation where I would have to put my parents in such homes or my children would put me there.
