On Site Safety For Feet
Safety boots are an essential requirement in many different types of work
, and lots of people wear them to keep their feet protected, dry and healthy. There are many different styles of safety boots with varying features. Some workplaces and jobs may require all the available features, whilst other may only require a few.
One of the most popular features of safety boots, which many people will be familiar with, are steel toe caps. These are great for those who are in dangerous environments such as construction sites, where large and heavy objects are moved daily. Carry large blocks, glass and other heavy items can all be hazardous, and toes can often be hurt if items are dropped onto them. If they are struck with a heavy item, they may even break, forcing any injured employees to take time off from work until they have healed adequately. This can cost time and money, so it is important that all employees who are at risk should wear protective safety boots whilst on site. Steel toe caps can be found in most styles of safety boot, however they can now be found made from aluminium instead. This is a much lighter metal, but can still provide the strength of steel, making it a much more comfortable addition to safety boots.
The most comfortable safety boots should protect the foot and the ankle, without being too thick and heavy. If the boots are heavy, it can often mean a reduction in foot sensitivity; it can be difficult to feel exactly where the feet are placed when walking or lifting heavy items. A strong yet lightweight shoe is the perfect option, as it will allow ease of movement and feel more natural during wear.
Waterproofing is another great feature to look for, as many employees will be wearing their boots outside. Boots which become wet or even saturated by rain or wet conditions underfoot can quickly become uncomfortable. Not only does water make the feet cold, but damp skin, socks and boot linings can increase rubbing and friction on the foot. This can quickly become sore and uncomfortable, and can affect the ability of staff to work comfortably and safely. Waterproofing is an excellent feature, and most good quality boots will have a waterproof upper and sole.
Well engineered soles are very important in work boots, as the feet often have to take a lot of pressure, weight and strain throughout the day. A good soft inner sole will be comfortable, and the design is also important to ensure good grip and shock absorption. This can be achieved with a textured design on the outer sole, which will channel water away from the foot and give the boots a good grip even on slippery surfaces such as wet mud and grass.
Well engineered and manufactured safety boots are essential for keeping workers safe from harm. They provide good grip and traction for moving throughout the day, and will protect workers from any accidents which may damage their feet.
