One Foot In The Algarve

Many people who travel to the south of Portugal come to enjoy the great golfing opportunities mixed with even better weather

. The idea of playing along a beautiful exotic coastline has been drawing golfers in from all over Europe this past 30 or so years, and the numbers that come are well catered for with over 35 pristinely kept golf course to choose from. The growth of the sport in the Algarve was inspired by Englishman Henry Cotton who was a former 3 time Open winning golfer. He designed the first proper grass course, and he went on to design another two.

The main season to head over to the Algarve for golf is between October and April, and the reason for this is whilst many countries around Europe are knee deep in snow in Algarve you can expect warm, sunny weather, perfect for playing a few holes. That being said the Algarve isn't without it's rainfall and the winter months see the most of it unfortunately.

Throughout the Algarve's many municipalities there are many fantastic courses, one more beautiful than the next. Over the 70's, 80's, 90's and up to this very day golf course have been springing up over the districts within the Algarve, and many of which located along the coast to provide picturesque surrounding for golfers. Parque da Floresta golf course is set on steep hillsides, Salgados and Vilamoura III both were made on ground very close to sea level.

Many people visiting the Algarve will notice how the countryside areas are broken up by the may golf courses located throughout its landscape. Another thing people will notice about the course is that there are few water hazards, something that will be an added bonus for some golfers out there.

The Algarve isn't solely about golfing excursions, people do make the make the journey for other reasons such as the vast culture and breathtaking scenery that is run of the mill to any destination in this region. The nature found in the area includes Monchique Mountain and the Ria Formosa lagoon. You can enjoy the sight of Monchique Mountain from a few of the golf courses while you play which adds to the unique experience of playing the sport in the Algarve.

Many people enjoy the hundreds of beaches located all along the Algarve coast where typical holidaymakers who work on their tan on the golden beaches that meet the warm waters from the Atlantic Ocean.
