The type and choice of your online marketing strategy can ultimately lead to the failure and downfall of your business

. Any overall marketing plan should therefore be made up of only one or two methods to begin with in order to market your products, your services or yourself effectively.

The last thing you want to become is "a Jack of all trades and a master of none".

If you don't avoid this then you won't be able to get deep enough into a single method you may be using and perfect it through trial and error as you're not able to devote enough time to all the strategies you may be using. Focusing on just one or two methods for a certain period of time and really becoming an expert at that method by perfecting it, and reducing the time it takes you to implement it, whilst still achieving the same if not better results, is a much more productive way of getting the results you want.

You then get more traffic, opt-ins and/or sales because you've devoted the time needed to really focus on exactly what works; reflecting on what doesn't and eliminating them elements from your chosen strategy. If you're trying to "spread yourself to thin" the process of development and adaptation becomes tough and laborious; as you don't actually have a clear idea of what's working.


Often, very trivial things like a word or statement you may be using, or the time you sent out your messages can result in the success or failure of a strategy. Hence why focusing on one or two marketing methods, before implementing more strategies, is so important.

Once perfected, you are then able to call yourself an expert in that field, whether it be viral marketing, social web 2.0, PPC, social networking or Ezine advertising. But more importantly, as you're now an expert at that method, you have put yourself in a position to teach others exactly what to do. Whether that be via coaching, product creation or direct consultation you can be sure that your methods will achieve them the same results you have had; building your authority as a successful online marketer.

It's so simple it can often be un-believable, but this fact is exactly what dooms so many online marketers to failure. And, before carrying out any strategy completing a certain amount of research into the demographics of you ideal customer and the sites they visit will also help. This will definitely help your online marketing strategies and will almost double you chance of success in the future.
