There are many people in the online marketing world who are searching for tools and techniques for doing better online niche market research and keyword research. And there is a lot of information already online about this topic. However, I will discuss something a little bit different in this article. I'll discuss why you should do online niche market research, and what to focus on, more than specific numbers, or tools.
Now, do not get me wrong. Of course, there is a technical side of almost everything about online marketing. And online niche market research is no different. You need to use some kind of tools to discover keywords online, which get good amount of traffic online, which are relevant to your buyers, and for which there is little competition so that you can rank on search engines, or pay lower prices for pay per click ads.
However, there is also an "art" to it, which cannot be defined in clear-cut numbers, and it takes a certain amount of "feeling" or "guessing" what would be a good keyword phrase and what would not.
The problem with tools, numbers etc is that, everyone else is also using them. Now, let's say, someone published a keyword research tool, and in the user manual, said something like, "when you are doing online niche market research look for keywords which get at least X number of searches per month, and less than Y number of competition on Google when searched in phrases".
Now, the problem with that is, when 10,000 Internet Marketers go and download the same keyword research tool, and go ahead and read the instructions, and then start researching and niche market, say, "dog training", it creates a list of all the same keywords with the same numbers to these 10,000 marketers at the same time. And when every one of those 10,000 marketers focus on the same keyword, it creates lots of competition. See the dilemma?
Therefore, you cannot rely on any silage tool or method too much. Or let's just say, you have to trust your brain and "gut instinct" much more than any online tool and software you can think of.
Much of the data is usually flawed anyway. Even if you get the data directly from Google, they do not show the results accurately either.
The reason why you are doing all this Internet marketing thing, is not just to make you rich. It is to make you rich by providing other people more value than you are earning yourself. So, on the other end of the Internet, there is a live human being, and his (or her) life will change due to your actions. So, the keyword phrases you are researching are not just numbers on a screen, they represent people who are just like you, your friends, your relatives, and their desires.
Understand that when you are doing online niche market research, you are actually searching for the needs and desires of people, which are not very well served. Your task, is to look for groups of people who are looking for something, and cannot find what they are looking for online, as easily as it could be. And when you find them, look to understand their innermost desires. Visualize them as as specific person. Understand the reasons why he is looking for whatever it is that he is looking for online.
And doing so, let your mind think more ways you can connect with him. Look at forums, see questions asked. Search blogs, see titles of posts. Search twitter, see what people are twitting about in your niche. Take a part in their conversation and develop a feeling about what they want and what matters most to them.
This is something no other software or tool can do for you. You cannot market to an audience whom you do not have an understanding of. If you rely too much on automated tools with keyword research, add to it the tools that spin the plr content, then you will be just producing garbage no one wants. Even if you did come with #1 search results in Google, it will not create the results you want. People will not respond to content which does not speak to them.
Care about your readers, and understand that they are just other fellow human beings like you, and your job will become so much easier. Then all the tools and techniques will "make sense" and fall into place.
