Organic Clothes - A Key To Health
Organic... what does it mean? Well it means natural
, grown with no harmful chemicals. Cotton has been grown for centuries to be used in fabric production, but it hasn't been organic until recently. Scientists have discovered that pestcides and insecticides once used to protect the crop and help it flourish, actually have negative results. The residues from the chemicals are harvested with the cotton, and remain on the fibers as they are processed and turned into clothing.
Organic clothes don't have this problem. The cotton is grown with NO pesticides or insecticides. Natural insects are brought in to keep bad insects in check. Another benefit from organically grown cotton is the yield of a longer stable cotton fiber, which is woven into stronger yarn. Softer, luxurious, breathable organic clothes. Why would you want to buy anything else? Let's look at the health benefits of organic cotton... medical- the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) has determined that they consider 7 of the top 15 pesticides that are used on cotton in the US are a probable cause of cancer. And if that isn't enough, allergies can be triggered by the amount of pesticides in non organic cotton.
Children face a much greater risk to pesticide related health issues than adults. That really makes you think when you bring a newborn home from the hospital, is the cotton blanket, the cotton gown, the cotton bumper, organic cotton? Organic clothes come in all sizes and styles, for baby clothes to workout clothes to everyday knockaround clothes. Are you in to designer clothes? Well rest assured organic clothes are sporting great fashion and top names. One such supporter of organic living is the artist Bono and his wife Ali Hewson with their organic clothes line called "Edun One".
Other natural plant based fabrics have been organically harvested, just like cotton. Amoung these are bamboo, soybeans, and hemp. Hemp is very interesting because it has a natural resistance in insects, fungus, and other pests, therefore it needs absolutely no herbicides. The downfall of this plant is the fact that it cannot be legally grown in the US, so organic use is mainly in the East. Are you going to try organic fabrics? Yes anything made of cotton, can be made of organic cotton. It might cost a little more, but isn't it worth your health and the health of the ones you love? So next time you buy a piece of clothing, check the label! 100% organic clothing, it's the best!
