Our Volunteers In Sri Lanka Have Also Experienced Warm
Sri Lanka has faced civil war, Tsunami disaster and the recent financial crisis
. Despite all this, the people have never lost faith in their ability to come through every crisis and carve out a bigger and brighter future. Sri Lanka is, despite the calamities that are mostly man made, a beautiful country full of mountains, forests, pristine beaches, tea plantations and unique culture. This probably is the reason why tourist arrivals in Sri Lanka never dipped worryingly during many years of civil war, for there simply isnt a place like Sri Lanka.
Despite the booming tourism industry, Sri Lanka is a poor country and many people still live below poverty line. RCDP International operates mainly in the south of the country, in the beautiful beach town of Galle, where you can wander along pristine beaches, watch fishermen in action, and soak in culture of this unique town. Its a very laidback town, where villages dotted around the coastal area are mired in poverty, and help from volunteers are greatly appreciated.
In the orphanages of Sri Lanka, our volunteers have contributed significantly by teaching the children English, and caring and loving them. Volunteers have also taught English in resource poor schools and to monks inside the monastery. English is very important for young children of Sri Lanka to learn and ability to read and write well in the language can secure them seats in prestigious colleges and get good jobs. Therefore, with the work that our volunteers have done in Sri Lanka, young children, especially those that are orphaned and deprived, have often become confident and achieved good grades.
In the heart of Sri Lanka, at Kandy, the cultural and ancient capital of Sri Lanka, volunteers have work in unique elephant orphanage project, where they cared for elephants orphaned, injured and abandoned by their herds. Many volunteers have described this experience unique and fascinating.
Our
volunteers in Sri Lanka have also experienced warm Sri Lankan hospitalities when theyve stayed with host families, and many volunteers have still maintained contacts even after leaving Sri Lanka. All this and much more makes Sri Lanka a unique destination to volunteer.
