Out and about on the Costa del Sol

Without doubt the Costa del Sol is probably one of the most famous and most popular holiday resorts in Europe attracting millions of visitors every year, most of which come through the International airport of Malaga. To help accommodate more and more visitors every year the airport has been expanded with the building of a new state of the art terminal, but that is not all that is planned for the Costa del Sol.

Unfortunately some of the plans have been delayed or will take longer to complete due to the economic crisis affecting the whole world but there are some exciting projects still underway to make it easier to get to and from the Costa del Sol and to get around while you are here.

Now that there is a new airport terminal there is a new additional runway planned to help alleviate the stress the current runway experiences. As well as the airport other transport links are being improved such as the AVE high speed rail routes. New sections have been opened making it faster to get to other Spanish locations which have resulted in journey times to Madrid coming down by at least an hour to just over two hours and new routes being added such as the AVE journey to Barcelona.

More train routes are planned over the coming years with new track to be laid along the western Costa del Sol linking Malaga to Algeciras and running through major resorts like Marbella and Estepona.

Roads are also undergoing much improvement and there will soon be a new ring road to alleviate the heavy traffic through Malaga. Another major problem used to be at San Pedro de Alcantara but this will soon be a thing of the past as the construction of an underpass is well underway.

If you are a regular visitor to the Costa del Sol or are planning a holiday then the town halls are working hard to ensure you can move around more easily
