Outdoor Adventure And Branson Shows
With all the hustle and bustle surrounding Branson shows and attractions
, it can be hard to remember that you are in one of the most beautiful areas in the nation. While in Branson, take time to appreciate the Ozarks. Your best bet to do so is by camping.
No matter what kind of camping you enjoy, chances are there are camping facilities to suit you. There are at least 20 campgrounds in or near Branson-- close enough so you can get to Branson shows easily, yet far enough away to escape city noise and traffic. They are all good sites, but which one you select depends on your needs and tastes.
For example, if you are a minimalist wilderness-style camper-- that is, you take only a tent, some food, and the clothes on your back -- you might enjoy Table Rock State Park and Big Bay Recreation Area, both part of the Mark Twain National Forest. Choose these if you want a true camping experience: there are plenty of trails to explore and all the standard public campground amenities.
When you're in town for Branson shows, you may want a bit of that hillbilly flavor for yourself. Water's Edge offers cozy cabins that will fit the bill nicely. Don't expect a rundown shack-- these are contemporary units that have all the amenities you need with more convenience than an RV can provide.
For those who travel in an RV, there are plenty of RV campgrounds. These are privately run businesses that offer various amenities, depending on your needs. For example, if you are traveling with your grandchildren, check out Jellystone Park, the Branson KOA Campground, or Branson Musicland Campground. These and similar campgrounds offer activities to keep the little ones occupied while you set up or break camp. They also tend to be closer to town. So if you are a bit dubious about "roughing it," these are a great option.
Those who think that camping always means rustic have never tried an RV resort. How rugged can it be in a resort that has indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a big-screen media room, and wireless internet throughout the grounds? Yet Treasure Lake Resort, a private resort, offers all these and more. It's within walking distance of many attractions and restaurants, too.
No matter which campground you choose, be sure to pack for the weather. As always, allow for layering of your clothes and bring plenty of bug spray and sunscreen in the summer months. Allow time to at least take a walk through the campground so you can take in the natural beauty of the Ozarks. The Ozark Mountains are unique, deep gullies rather than tall mountains, with a beauty all their own.
If you're worried about bringing "theater clothes" to a campground, you shouldn't be. Branson shows are very casual. Dress to be comfortable: jeans and shorts are fine (though you may want a light sweater if air conditioning bothers you). Even more sophisticated shows, such as Yakov Smirnoff's Dinner Adventure, encourage comfortable clothing.
There are two kinds of Branson shows: those in the theater and those in the great outdoors. To get the full Branson experience and your full entertainment value, don't forget to go camping.
