When you are thinking of a way to create an atmosphere of warmth, and of familiarity, nothing quite creates this like outside fire pits are able to. Outside fire pits are specially designed pits that can be used for a variety of purposes. Some people use them to simply have a source of light. Some people use them to keep warm outside on cool evenings. Still, some people use outside fire pits for cooking. There are many different designs, models, and methods of heating these outside fire pits.

The most important thing when selecting outside fire pits, is to consider what heating source a person would like to have. The heating sources for the pits are propane gas, and wood. Both have advantages. It just depends on what the taste of the purchaser is. For example, a person who wants a cleaner burning experience will be more likely to buy a propane gas pit. They don't have to worry about shopping for wood, or about where to keep the wood. Some people love a wood burning fire, but they don't like what comes with it, such as storing the wood, or possibly animals and bugs getting into the wood. None of this is the case with propane gas.

On the other hand, some people are fire purists. They feel that there is no such thing as an outdoor burning fire without wood. They'll care about nothing else but having the aroma of a wood burning fire for their family and friends to enjoy. This is one of the reasons why people get outside fire pits in the first place; they want to be able to sit around with their family and friends at the end of the evening, and enjoy conversation, or just sit out under the stars, listening to music, or anything that one might want to do on a nice evening with company. One doesn't even have to have company to enjoying an outdoor pit; they can simply sit out with their favorite beverage, and enjoy the warmth of the fire. Still, some people like to take their sticks, and roast marshmallows on it while they're enjoying their wood burning fire. It should be kept in mind that if a person is using a propane gas flame, they should not stick marshmallows into these.

One other type of outdoor pit to mention is the fire domes. Fire domes are pits that create an extra source of atmosphere. These are metal and copper pits that have intricate designs drilled into the dome. When a fire is lit inside of the pit, then the glow of the flame will emanate outside of the holes, and the light will then cast the pattern on the surrounding areas. These are especially great for creating atmosphere after a party.
