When they decided to give the ozone laundry cleaning system of Airtrona Green Technologies an opportunity to reduce their bills, the results were surprising.
The ozone laundry system installed by Airtrona actually reduced the hotel's laundry expenses by more than 70%. The hotel cut its detergent expenses in half and significantly reduced the amount of water needed to clean the hotel's linens.

Ozone is a strong natural oxidizer and disinfectant. It kills microbes much faster than weaker oxidizers like chlorine - up to 3,000 times faster. In a laundry application, the ozone is injected into the water and works in conjunction with the laundry chemicals to provide a more efficient wash cycle; a wash cycle that uses less energy and needs fewer chemicals than traditional laundry cleaning systems.
Airtrona, which has a patent-protected technology that makes the ozone laundry cleaning system more efficient than those of competing ozone cleaning companies, released the Sheraton Hotel case study to convince hotels and any other companies with a large laundry bill that ozone is smart for their bottom line. "Green technology is a booming sector of our economy and not just because of the environment," said Sam Barbieri, Airtrona sales manager. Any business that launders a lot of linens and clothing, including hospitals, hotels, motels, child care facilities, retirement homes, and even commercial laundry services can easily save tens of thousands of dollars every year."
Experts point out that the rate of return on a hotel ozone laundry system may increase dramatically through state and local energy providers and water companies who provide grants, rebates and other incentives to facilities that install energy and water-saving technologies and equipment.
An added bonus, according to managers of the Le Centre Sheraton, is the quality of the linens and towels.
