Packing Everything You Need For Your Trip To The Galapagos Islands
Traveling to the Galapagos Islands can be a trip of a lifetime
. Located just off the west coast of Ecuador, there are almost 20 islands in total and contain a population of roughly 25,000 inhabitants. A trip to the Galapagos Islands can be made year-round, however it's important to note the seasons when determining what to pack.
A number of hotel accommodations are located throughout the islands. As with most hotels, you won't have to worry about bed linens, towels and washcloths or even essential toiletries such as shampoo and soap. What you want to focus on when packing up your suitcase are your clothes and other things that you want to bring with you.
There are essentially two seasons on the islands, the first is hot and rainy and the second is cool and windy. If you are looking for hot and rainy, you want to travel between December and June. The temperatures average around the 80s in day and the occasional showers are seen in the afternoons. If you prefer cool and windy, then June to November is going to be the best time to visit. It is in the 70s during the day and gets cooler at night.
Traveling during the hot season means you'll want to include short sleeved shirts and shorts as well as an umbrella for the afternoon showers and a hat with a brim to reduce the chance of sunburn and to shade your eyes from the sun. When you travel in the colder part of the year, pack some warmer clothes. Because of mist-like drizzle, you may want to consider a weatherproof jacket as well as pants for the evening.
The majority of the islands have a lot of rocky terrain due to them being formed from volcanoes. It's important to pack appropriate footwear. Sold sneakers with a good tread will ensure that you are able to hike where you want to see the best views. If you're going in the water, you may want some water shoes with a tread to avoid tearing up your feet on the ocean floor.
If you plan on doing any kind of fishing, diving or snorkeling, you don't need to bring any of your gear unless you want to. If you want to pack lightly, there are places throughout the many islands that you can rent the gear that you need. Depending on the hotel or resort you're staying at, you may even be able to reserve the gear in advance so you know it will be there when you arrive.
Perhaps the most important thing you can pack will be your camera so you can capture images of all the great creatures and all of the amazing scenery.
