Paint Your Outbuildings This Summer

Well the time has come for you to get out the tins of paint and paint brushes to transform the outbuildings that belong to your property

. After all the effect a lick of paint has your on your home is self evident. It makes the whole place look fresh and a pleasure to live in. So why not do the same for your garage, shed, stable or workshop.

While the basics are the same, both the preparation and painting of your outbuildings will be be quite different from when you painted your home. Firstly, these places are put to different use. Secondly, you store different types things in them than you would your home.

One thing that you will need to do that is different is to paint the floor. You will need high performance floor paint for this task as obviously the flooring will take a heavy pounding. Before commencing painting,the floor must be cleaned of any spillages, especially oil. This is done by using a special oil and stain remover. Acid etch cleaner can also be used but it is important you wear gloves when using this type of product for your own protection.

Oils or other spillages on your garage or outbuilding floor may make it dangerously slippery. If you think this is likely to be the case, or just want to be extra careful, you can use an additive to reduce the possibility of slipping. You apply it by scattering over the first coat while it is still wet. Once it has dried, you then cover the area with another coat of paint.

When painting your walls and ceilings first remove any flaking materials from the surfaces. It is good practice to use only high quality emulsion, especially when covering unplastered areas such as brickwork. And before beginning the work, make sure you have all those accessories brushes, rollers and trays - to hand as you begin transforming your outbuildings.
