To most of us our homes are the most expensive possessions we will ever buy. This is why they are so important to us and why people take great pride in them. Some people choose to take on the decoration of their homes themselves, this allows them to put their own mark on the house and really make it their own. People sometimes think that this can't be achieved if you hire someone to do the work for you. However this isn't always the case, if you hire somebody to complete the job for you then you can always make sure you have your own ideas and opinions integrated into any design you want.

Painters and Decorators now have a lot more responsibility when it comes to the job they do. It used to be that a painter and decorator would just turn up and paint where ever was required however nowadays there is a lot more work that goes into the job than just the painting. Many painters and decorators are even sometimes specialised in other areas of the decorating business, this could be many things, like gilding, special paintings, for children's bedrooms for example. Textured painting, applying wallpaper and much more. Nowadays painters and decorators are expected to do a lot of work before and after painting. Painters and Decorators will normally be expected to prepare any of the surfaces prior to painting, this can involve masking areas to protect them from paint, laying down sheets to prevent splashes to carpets, covering furniture and much more. Some painters and decorators will even be required to buy the paint and in rare cases even choose the colour they think will suit a room best.

There is work which is needed to be carried out after a painter has done their job, this will be clearing away, making sure rooms look the same as they did at the beginning. If you are thinking of becoming a painter and decorator then it is a very good job to get into, with buildings and new housing complexes cropping up all over the place then you will always have work.
