The project was started by the Nakheel Group that is a well known figure in the United Arab Emirates in the property development and construction works. The Nakheel Group has left no stone unturned in order to make the masterpiece project of artificial islands. They had the services of Belgian and Dutch search and marine contractors namely Jan De Nul and Van Oord along with other specialists in the fields from different parts of the globe.

There is a series of these man-made islands and the have been named as the Palm Jumeirah, the Palm Jebel Ali and the Palm Deira. They are situated in Persian Gulf and will take 520 kilometres of the beaches. The structure of these islands is based on the palm tree which is the reason of their name.

The Palm Jumeirah

This project was launched in the year 2001 in the moth of June. It is shaped as tree trunk with crown and 17 fronds. In the first stage, 4,000 Jumeirah residences were made and the people started settling down in their apartments and the villas in the year 2006.

Palm Jebel Ali

It was launched soon after the construction work of The Palm Jumeirah began and it officially started in the month of October in 2002. The completion year was announced as 2008 while it is a bigger project than The Palm Jumeirah. It has a park based on water them called the Sea Village.

Palm Deira

This project was launched after two years of the launch of Palm Jebel Ali in the year October, 2004 while the development group did not announce the completion date of it.
