Customer Review:

This purchase my first HDTV and I are very happy. Friends suggest I do with Panasonic as more bang for my money, and he was right.

Stood very easy assembly and is made to feel good for any decor. Menus are easy to use and configure the initial breeze, explained that all options available for display so that people familiar with the acronym is not fun is not necessary to look through the manual.

Video quality is excellent. My first time with my PS3 (my main reason for buying television and tried very eye color pop. I will be plasma was worried too dark, but both categories of light and dark is very effective. Nothing appears fuzzy or black, too. Only complaint is that the screen brightness can be overwhelming and play with color settings (my fan more than a second, but depends on the game), but the light is Adaptive Lighting settings can seem to work pretty well. I'd like to adjust the overall range, but you can almost perfectly with the video settings and configure the TV video source, set. In addition, the size of anti-radiation enough that I can open a set of curtains for the image seen and not suffer.

Then through my laptop output HDMI (most customers probably would not be connected, but I'm going to talk anyway.) 1680x1050 resolution seems better, in 1920 he left the table watching too small and its easier to see the pixels, and anything smaller would not fit just not quite. I think the problem with my portable TV to bizarre decisions is not common, but these enough to compromise with the quality of the TV. Some of my games at 1280x960 and tested better than them on the screen of my laptop (and not less than 1680 on my computer was ambiguous. As also noted earlier, small pieces from the left and right was cut, but only enough attention while the menus. I definitely need this TV as a monitor for use in school work. Video quality is great with the compressed video files, so I am confident that Blue-ray will be surprising.

Speakers are below par, but not bad. I still can enjoy the game without the extra pressure of a solid body with woofer, but my priority will be the next sound.

Connections on the back of my TV content. I only use HDMI, and sometimes R is the time, but optical audio output is suitable for you around the speakers (I'm not sure if this is normal now, but I like it).

In general, I am very happy with the TV and buy it again. Quality, price and value out of it. Apart from some minor problems and poor speaker, HDTV is great.

Ok for the price

Not a bad picture, but be prepared to tweak it until you're happy. The other reviewer is correct about the brightness. I saw this in the shop, and they had it pegged to almost max. Understandable with the flo lights they have in the store. Reviewer number two is missing the point on his purchase. You don't buy an HD based on it's audio quality, and you don't buy it for S-Video. This is like saying your surround receiver doesn't have good audio in mono.

is this a top notch set. Nope, but considering what I paid compared to what I could have paid a year ago, I'm quite happy with this as my first HD set.

Excellent picture in HD or SD

The other reviewer probably needed a professional setup as many of the HD sets need it to counter the overly bright factory settings that are more for a showy picture to sell it in a showroom, but will shorten it's life span. Compared to many other sets, this one looks great, especially for the money. Per CR, reliability for Panasonic hd tvs is excellent too.

Sound from the tv speakers is good enough for most shows I watch, but of course it sounds better with my home theater speaker setup.

The color looks great on mine with minimal adjustment and the overall picture is excellent with an HDMI signal and through my component dvd.

Contrast and Brightness levels seem to be good in our den.

It's missing USB and VGA ports though which I knew prior to sale since I had done my homework online.

Overall a great tv at a great price.

bad color balance, poor sound, no S-Video, good slide viewer

Panasonic's CRT-TVs were renowned for their good colors that held up well for a variety of programs and sources, and I expected their HD-Plasma TV to be even better. This is not the case: in all of the display modes, the greens are too bright and cannot be sufficiently reduced by the available adjustments. The problem is worst in the STANDARD color setting; shifting TINT into the negative corrects this problem only a little: eventually everything looks either too magenta or too green. The CINEMA setting adds a yellow tinge that isn't much of a help: even after lengthy fiddling with the available adjustments, the sky looks more green than blue and the grass yellowish. The relatively best colors can be had in the VIVID setting with CONTRAST=50, BRIGHTNESS=0, COLOR=45, TINT=-2; but still every object that is medium green in nature shines as if it's illuminated from the back.

In the hope of finding hidden service adjustments that might correct these problems, I tried to order a service manual from Panasonic, which was always easy in the past. Now they moved their parts department call center to India and nothing works any more.

To finish the story on the picture, the chip reader renders the JPG-images much too bright and washed out. It almost seems as if Panasonic is trying to duplicate the worst of the LCD computer monitors, which have these flaws too. The best remedy here is the same as for those PC monitors: to reduce the gamma of the picture from 1 to about 0.8-0.7 before copying it to the chip. Interestingly, the color balance is then pretty good: a proof that it can be fine with this set if it would just be properly adjusted.

The sound was never a strong point of Panasonic TVs. They now specify 20W at 10% harmonic distortion. This distortion spec used to be customary in radios of the 30s and 40s and was abandoned in the HiFi-world around 1960 in favor of 100 times more stringent limits; and 20 watts of power would certainly vaporize those two little speakers. But Panasonic has cleverly prevented that by providing very low audio gain; one must crank up the VOLUME to 70 just to listen to some talking heads, and then the distortion becomes already audible.

If you want to watch your VHS tapes over an S-Video connection, you are out of luck with this (and almost all other) HD-TVs; back to the 'ole composite video. An external S-Video to component-video up-converter can be found for $150; but you had to have a high-def TV, didn't you.
