. The literary great said it best in the face of greatness. Normally lawyers are born into the profession as the gift of the gab is an essential element. If one is less inclined in this area yet is interested to participate in the legal arena, a career as a paralegal is a logical alternative.

As its name suggest, this professional is akin to the real thing yet lacking the background and certification held by a trained lawyer. Often times, he or she may be better acquainted with the legal process and law encyclopedias from back to front. However, due to the absence of his name in the bar associations member logbook, he is therefore not permitted to practice the legal profession. Despite the inability to bask in the limelight, the individual is usually more than capable to draft legal papers, contracts, agreements as well as prepare statements for trials, hearings, closings. The only drawback is the inability to sign on the dotted line or physically rebut the opposing partys statements in the court of law.

The paralegal, commonly referred to as the lawyers assistant, may be tasked with duties aside from preparation of legal documentation. Depending on the offices function as well as the individuals specialty, he or she is able to assist in the filing of tax returns as well as establishment of trust funds and estate management for the clients.

Despite modern technology enabling many office environments to rely on less paper, the legal profession possibly did not receive a memo regarding this matter. As such, they cannot do without their mountains of paperwork, files and folders. It is thus no surprise that lawyers need these assistants to help in retrieval of important information as the papyrus quicksand threatens to take in everything in its path.
