Parcel Delivery Goes Online Shopping
Weve all sent parcels to friends, work colleagues
, strangers, potential clients and so on, so the idea is not a new one but it is something that has had to become more and more competitive in order to hold its own in the current market place. The standard postal service for example has really had to fight hard to stay afloat since the invention of email and the resulting death of the letter. Where it once had the monopoly on sending letters nationally and internationally, it has had stiff competition for parcel delivery for many years.
We will never see the day when parcel delivery is defunct because the world thrives on trade and because unless we come full circle, online shopping will remain the easiest, quickest and most popular method of buying things and the method with the least overheads. Weve already seen the high street dry out, shrivel up and die because of the convenience and choice that online shopping offers and parcel delivery companies have really grabbed a hold of its coat tails. Couriers are no longer just enjoying the ride, theyre actually now leading the way in making online shopping more accessible, more attractive and more cost effective; theyre playing their part in the online revolution.
Gone are the days when sending parcels was reserved for companies with massive marketing and logistics budgets or individuals with cash to burn and friends in exotic places all over the world, its now for everyone because its such big business and so competitive that the prices are next nothing for the service you get. When you actually stop to think about it, its amazing that you can buy something before midday on one day and receive it the next day or order something online from an American website and receive it within a matter of days and all for a few pounds.
Online shopping is possible because the cost of delivery is either factored into the prices of the products and delivery is free or the cost of delivery is so tiny in comparison to the value of the product that for the convenience of shopping when the shops are shut or were bored at work, were more than happy to pay it. In fact, quite often delivery charges are smaller than parking and petrol prices if you did drive to the shops not to mention the lower prices online because of the lack of overheads.
