Partition Recovery After STOP 0x000000ED (0xaaaaaaaa,0xC0000032,0xcccccccc,0xdddddddd)

Creating partitions in our system has made working on the system fun and easy

. It has not only improved the speed of computer, but has also helped in managing things. Generally, people keep at least two partitions: a boot partition and a data partition. In the boot partition, all the things vital for booting system are saved, which include, MBR (master boot code, the disk signature, and the partition table), system files, and the operating system. The data partition contains all kinds of user files. This ensures that harm to the boot drive doesn't corrupt data stored in the other partition. However, if you are upgrading your system, and suddenly you find that the system doesn't load, and all your data saved in it becomes inaccessible, then, you have to opt for ways to recover partition.

Consider, you are upgrading your Windows system to the XP version. When you first restart it after the upgrade, you find a blue screen with the following message written on it,

STOP 0x000000ED (0xaaaaaaaa,0xC0000032,0xcccccccc,0xdddddddd)

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

where,

aaaaaaaa, cccccccc, and dddddddd are hexadecimal numbers

Technical Details for this error:

The parameter 0xC0000032 of the Stop error is a clear indication of the damage of the file system of the boot partition. This doesn't allow the file system to get mounted.

To resolve the problem, you will need to repair the volume using the chkdsk/r command. For this,

Insert Windows startup disk, or installation disk to start the computer.

On the Welcome to Setup screen, type R to repair. In case of a multi-boot or a dual-boot computer, choose the appropriate Windows installation that needs to be accessed.

Enter the administrator password, when prompted. This allows you to enter the recovery console.

In command prompt, choose the drive where Windows is installed, and type chkdsk/r and press Enter. Once done, type Exit, and restart the computer.

If the problem persists, repeat the procedure, by simply replacing the chkdsk/r command with fixboot command. This should solve the problem, and help you recover partition.

Since, using chkdsk/r command leads to data loss in certain cases, you may have to recover some files using the latest backup. However, if you have not taken a backup, then don't fret, as you can recover the deleted data using partition recovery software.
