PartyLite was originally started by a New England schoolteacher by the name of Mabel Kimball in 1905. She married Walter Baker in 1907. Mabel began by making candles from bayberries as Christmas presents for her friends and family.

PartyLite Gifts operates through independent representatives, who host PartyLite shows to sell Colonial Candle of Cape Cod brand candles and decorate candle accessories such as candle holders, silk flower arrangements and wall sconces.

The next step in development was that a unique profit plan was established for the PartyLite consultants who would sell the candles.
