When you look back at the past through the present's eye, it seems so distant and vague. It seems as if we are watching someone else's life. The good thing about this is that you can judge your life more honestly than you would have done, had you been living that event now. You can judge your past actions from a more rational viewpoint. When you were actually living that moment you find reasons to justify your actions, whether they be right or wrong. But once it becomes a part of your past and you replay the event in the mind's eye, you can see all the mistakes that you committed, all the possible outcomes that could have been, had you acted a bit differently. It is now that you don't find a reason to justify your actions, that you see them as they are, the way they could have been had you not been biased towards yourself, had you acted a bit differently, had you the courage to do the right thing, had you not have personal ego stand in your own way.

The thing is that it is very easy to judge others life and say 'this is what he or she is doing wrong' but when it comes to our ownselves, we always are clueless or find ways to justify our problems, mistakes and lives. We are always a bit too soft when judging ourselves.If we could see ourselves as others do or through a judgemental eye like we do everything else in the world and be honest with ourselves, then we would never find any reason to say "I wish i had done it this way", if only we could not judge ourselves after the moment has passed (as we generally do), but in that very moment, then we would not find many instances of repentance.
