Pepper Spray Patty on Protecting Your Purse and Personal Items

If you're like most women, you carry everything INCLUDING the kitchen sink around with you in your purse

. I'm sure if you tried to weed through the things in your purse, you'd probably end up with barely anything in the "leave out" pile and everything in the "I need" pile. However, some of the best advice out there is to only take what is absolutely necessarylegitimately necessary! Let's be serious, you don't need a camera with you at all times to document yourself waiting for a bus or drinking your fifth coffee of the day. You probably don't need to carry around every shade of lip gloss you own. You definitely don't need to bring along random things like nail polish remover and the book you finished reading a month ago. We look at the contents of our purses as means of survival, but what do we really need to survive one day or less out of our houses?

I've heard time and time again that you should only carry as much cash as you actually need, only one or two credit cards and the bare essentials when it comes to everything else. It may take some practice, but it's a great habit to get into. I'm still working on perfecting that one, but I'm hoping someday it comes naturally!

Now that you've started or at least begun considering slimming down what you carry around, it's time to think twice about what you do with your purse or wallet. Make sure you always keep it on you. If you're able to get away without carrying a purse, keep your wallet in a pocket (preferably with a zipper). Same goes with your phone. A zipped pocket is much more secure than carrying it around in your hand while you're not using it. Once you absentmindedly set it down and forget about it it's all overespecially since most of us use smartphones that carry around way more than phone numbers!

Never leave your bag unattended, especially when you're out in public. It's also very important that you remain aware of everything and everyone around you. If someone seems to be eyeing your bag suspiciously, it's probably cause for concern and hopefully you have your pepper spray handy just in case! If someone does manage to steal your purse, report it immediately to the police. The less you have in your bag the less you'll lose if this happens! Never try to physically go after someone that has stolen your purse. I understand how strong the urge is, but it's just not safe or smart. Your safety is the most important thing, even compared to whatever you may have inside your purse.
