An example would be if you search a keyword followed with a location, you'll find that many of the search results will not be related to the keyword your search, but rather the place you searched. When surfers get to your site through directories, it makes your web site's key phrases and keywords more relevant since the directory has a good rank, so you may want to pay whatever it costs to list yourself. Likewise, there are free directories that can offer you the same. You can find them with a little digging around.

The important thing for you to do is to perform the necessary research on the matter. Pay attention to sites that are already at the top of the rankings on the keywords that you want to be associated with; what is it that they do to achieve this rank? While there is nothing incredibly challenging about Search Engine Optimization (SEO), there are several things that can be confusing and it will require a good time commitment.
