Pet First Aid

Pet First Aid

Pet First Aid

There are many different kinds of first aid available for people there are emergency kits for physical wounds, there is precautionary first aid for binge drinkers, etc. One kind of first aid that I haven't really focused on in this blog is becoming more and important pet first aid. The most concerning part about pet first aid is how important it is, but how overlooked it has become, primarily due to the focus on learning techniques for saving people's lives in accidents or otherwise.

The truth is that pets are involved in accidents as well as their owners. Pet owners should be aware of the first aid techniques available to help save the life of pets. Think about how often you bring your pet with you to the store or out to a farmer's market during the time in which your pet is in the car, an accident could occur and you may need to help your animal until the proper authorities arrive.

Stock and land has a story about a group called Dog NSW the group is calling out for pet owners to learn pet first aid in case of an accident that involves your pet:

"Car accidents involving animals and pets can leave them in a situation where they are unable to help themselves. Territorial fights can result in cuts and abrasions which cause pain and discomfort to your best friend. Staying cool and calm is always an advantage in these situations. Breaks and fractures are easily identified without anything more than the most basic of first-aid knowledge. And these can easily be treated with a splint and bandaging."

As always, don't do anything to your dog that you are not sure about when it comes to first aid you don't want to make any situation worse for your pet. Make sure to contact your veterinarian before making any decisions about how to care for your pet in a time of need.
