Philadelphia Eagles Tickets - Vick Wows At Former Home
Those around the NFL had been looking forward to Dec
. 6 all year, as the date saw Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles take the field against Vick's former team, the Atlanta Falcons, at the Falcons' stadium. Like earlier in the season when Brett Favre faced his former team, the Green Bay Packers, with the Minnesota Vikings, all eyes were on the fans' reactions at this game. It was little surprise, then, that the fans welcomed Vick with boos. Unlike Green Bay Packers fans, though, they would change their tune by the end of the game.
So far this season, Vick has played a limited role on the Eagles' offense, sitting behind quarterback Donovan McNabb or one of his backups. He took the field to give the Eagles a wildcat option. The position is quite different than his days as a star quarterback with the Falcons, but he showed a little of the old pizzazz during the game against the Falcons. Even the boos couldn't stop him. When the game started, the climate of the stadium started to change in Vick's favor, and soon the Atlanta fans were chanting, "We want Vick!" In the end, Vick's efforts helped the Eagles take home a decisive 34-7 win over the Falcons.
Prior to the game against the Falcons, Vick had yet to find the end zone in the 2009 season. In fact, he hadn't done so since 2006. He ended his dry streak against the Falcons in the third quarter when he had a five-yard touchdown run. Vick displayed his depth of abilities in the fourth quarter when he found tight end Brent Celek for a five-yard touchdown pass. He only threw the ball twice in the game, but he connected both times, giving him a passer rating of 158.3. He also had four rushing attempts for 17 yards.
Even with his infamous history with the Falcons, Vick had an emotional homecoming. He was still running high on emotions after the game and explained what it was like returning to Atlanta. According to the Eagles' website, Vick said, "I will never forget this game. I will never forget coming back to the city of Atlanta. Arriving yesterday I will never forget seeing the landmarks of the city that I lived in for six years. I will never forget shedding a tear on the bus ride over here thinking about all my experiences here in the past. It was a different feel and situation and this time, I was the opposition."
For those who haven't kept up with the Vick saga (which can't be very many), Vick has been on a rollercoaster since 2007. After multiple Pro-Bowl seasons with the Falcons, Vick seemed to be able to do no wrong, but in early 2007 he was investigated in connection with a dog fighting ring. He was subsequently charged for bankrolling a dog fighting operation, but the portrayal of Vick as a dog killer was what turned public opinion against him. He served time in a federal prison before being cleared to play during the 2009 season. He landed a spot with the Eagles and has since been proving himself as a reformed citizen.
