Abstract This paper describes the standard point to point optical Ethernet technology
and industrial development, and point to point and multipoint optical Ethernet technology to do a detailed comparison of PON technology, the last of the points Point Optical Ethernet technology prospects were discussed. Fiber to the home (FTTH) technology uses optical fiber as transmission medium, with transmission capacity, transmission quality, high reliability, long transmission distance, anti-electromagnetic interference, is one of the future direction of development of broadband fixed access. FTTH way to achieve two major categories: point to point (pointto point, P2P) active optical network and multipoint (point tomulti-point, P2MP) passive optical network (PON). With the rapid development of broadband services and FTTH constant temperature, FTTH network point to point optical Ethernet technologies (hereinafter referred to as P2P), particularly single fiber bi-directional optical Ethernet technology is beginning to receive more attention. 1, P2P development of standardization and industry P2P usually refers to the use of point to point transmission of light signals from the central office or remote room to each user with a pair or a separate optical fiber, central office and the need for a light client transceiver . P2P-based FTTH traditional way to achieve a "media converter (MC) + Traditional Ethernet switches" to build the net, using MC to electrical signals into optical signals for long distance transmission. This program is mainly used for the early FTTH residential and business customers access to dedicated access, has the advantage of the current popularity of 100Mbit / s Ethernet switches in terms of speed, not to replace support for optical fiber transmission network card, simply add the MC can be, thereby reducing the costs, shown in Figure 1. Figure 1 MC + traditional Ethernet switch topology However, this approach lacks the relevant international standards, different manufacturers of equipment is difficult to achieve interoperability. Furthermore, since the MC and the Ethernet switch is the separation of the two devices is not conducive to maintenance, and because each user occupies a single Ethernet port and an MC, flat machine frame number of users can access lower access in the park to do seeded, bound together by multi-level networking model, which correspondingly increased the point of failure and maintenance difficulty, it is a transitional point FTTH program. Recent years, the single fiber bi-directional P2P system gets more and more attention. Bidirectional P2P system can save half of the fiber consumption and save system construction costs and improve the traditional methods of P2P systems MC weak network problems. Currently IEEEEFM Working Group, ITU-T and Nippon Telegraph and Technology Committee launched their own respective relevant standards. IEEE 802.3ah finalized in September 2004, the current standard number for IEEE802.3-2005. The standard defines the rate of 100 Mbit / s, 10 km transmission distance and rate 1000Mbit / s, transmission distance 10km, two new P2P standard, using WDM (wavelength division multiplexing) the realization of single fiber bi-directional transmission, the downlink are selected 1310nm and 1550nm. Standard optical interface into the physical parameters required, while the definition based on the Ethernet link monitoring and loopback testing of OAM (operation, maintenance and management) functions, enhanced network management capabilities. ITU-TG.985 is the ITU-T SG15 to develop a P2P organization system standards, in March 2003 released a revised edition in 2005, including P2P system architecture, ODN (Optical Distribution Network), information on physical parameters and simple OAM. However, this standard only defines the current rate of 100Mbit / s, the standard 10km distance, but some are only mentioned OAM concepts and does not define a specific message frame. TS-1000 standard in 2003, developed by the Japanese Telecommunications Technology Committee, which defines three kinds of distance single-mode fiber bidirectional transmission: ClassS (short distance), Class A (middle distance), ClassB (long distance). In addition, the definition of a 12byte short frame for OAM functions in order to improve the way the traditional MC is not P2P network management issues. The latest version of version 2, released in January 2004. Table 1, these three kinds of standards were compared. 3 Table 1 Comparison of Standards and Technology P2P Can see three criteria which, IEEE802.3ah definition of the most comprehensive, not only provides a single fiber bi-directional and dual-fiber bi-directional modes, also gives the 100Mbit / s and 1000 Mbit / s transfer rate of two, in addition to defined OAMPDU up to the net load carrying 1496byte can support more management and maintenance information.
