On Lung Phochuan Road is Karon Plaza which sells DVDs, T-shirts, and local Thai handicrafts. Shopping areas in Kata Beach are inland just a bit. They offer a wide selection of shopping opportunities for travelers. Smile Gallery is a good place to find modern art oil paintings. Nearby is the Bikini Shop, which is one of the best places to find the latest fashions in swimwear and other accessories. There are some sportswear outlets in Thailand in this area. One of the biggest is the Adidas and Nike Outlet on Kata Road. Kata Bookshop is nearby for secondhand books. The northern section has many restaurants, guesthouses, and pubs. The southern end offers a beautiful coral reef and a great place to dine on seafood and watch the sunset, which also has a popular reggae scene. The surrounding headlands throughout the area provide good hiking, jungle and forests treks with exquisite sunset and panoramic views.

The temperatures range from 29 degrees C to 33 degrees C year around. Kata Beach has nearly everything imaginable for a tourist. From the hedonist to the naturalist, and the hi-so, to the budget traveler, the diversification available here can fit any lifestyle. For the active traveler, a number of social and athletic activities are available including wake boarding, jet skiing, kite boarding, parasailing. For the kids, there is surfing, and boogie-boarding. Also, there is a popular mini-golf course called Dino Park, which is great for the entire family. The low-key tourist can indulge in relaxation on the beachhead with a cool breeze, and waiter to beach chair service.

To get a little exercise, there is volleyball, Frisbee, and football in many places along the beach. After sunbathing, shopping, and sightseeing, travelers can take a pleasure cruise along the river in the evening or even rent your own private island. More adventurous travelers can go bungee jumping, trekking through the jungles and forests on elephants, rock climbing, shooting guns, or take a boating trip to Kho Phi Phi and Phang Nga. Jeeps, cars, and mopeds are also available to rent and explore the many outlying areas of Phuket Island. November through March is the high season, so remember to book your hotel room in advance.
