Picking The Best Bakkie or SUV To Suit Your Way Of Life
Picking The Best Bakkie or SUV To Suit Your Way Of Life
Considering the variety of good bakkies and other utility vehicles available these days, deciding which type of motor vehicle to invest your money in can be quite a complicated process!
The first thing you need to think about is what you will mostly be using your vehicle for. If you are a mother who needs to transport a couple of children to school and football practice routinely, you would probably need a four door or similar passenger car with enough seats and good safety features. If, however, you are a farmer in a remote area, you will need something more robust and practical - possibly such as a bakkie, 4x4 or other utility vehicle.
Bakkies and 4x4's are getting to be increasingly popular. There are more single and double cab bakkies, 4x4's and other utility vehicles on the road than ever before. The main advantage about these types of vehicles is that they are not only comfortable to drive (well, mostly anyways!) but also very functional and diverse.
Double cab bakkies are probably my favourite! First of all you generally have seating for 4 to 5 people, similar to your standard family vehicle or sedan. But furthermore, you have the added advantage of an extra large "boot" or cargo area. Single cab bakkies are a bit more restricted and can only accommodate 2 (max 3) travellers, but in turn has a slightly bigger cargo space, so it is important to evaluate your preferences and ascertain what matters most to you: Room for your travellers or space for your cargo.
Double cab bakkies are specially useful for those lengthier trips to the shoreline or other remote areas. With your family and children in front there is still more than enough space for the camping tent, camping gear and fishing rods in the back. Lots of double cab bakkies can be turned into even more multipurpose vehicles simply by fitting a canopy on the back. In this way you do not only have the additional space (you can now stack your cargo much higher!) but you are also protecting your goods from elements such as water, hail or wind.
Many bakkies, both single and double cab, are offered also in a 4 wheel drive model which means you can now conquer even remote and destitute areas in style. Add to that cutting edge satnav systems, comfortable seats, air-conditioning and power-steering and it is obvious to see that bakkies aren't just meant for farmers or construction workers!
If you decide that you want to invest in a bakkie or other utility vehicle, you must do proper homework and decide which vehicle would suit your needs and requirements best. Always take a motor vehicle for a test drive before committing to your purchase - ensure that the vehicle handles as impressively as the brochure promises!
Compare as many manufacturers and designs as you possibly can - you will just know when you eventually get behind the steering wheel of your next motor vehicle!
