PinkCatShop, a leading UK online retailer of retro, kitsch and unusual gifts, has bucked the trend for economic doom and gloom with a record turnover in 2009 and, with a revamped website and new warehouse, is set to repeat the good news in 2010. We made a conscious business decision not to let the doomsayers of press and politics to drive our business model this last year, says PinkCatShop CEO Richard Rhys Davies. It can lead businesses into a self-defeating spiral of lost customer confidence. Instead we went all out for customer service and to inspire our customers to put themselves first. PinkCatShops inventory of design led fashion accessories such as bags and purses as well as their ranges based on knowing kitsch appeal to a customer base who are likely to spend on gifts for themselves as much as others. We saw a huge increase in orders over the Christmas period as we expected, explains warehouse manager Dimitri van Damme, but our operation is based on a 12 month business plan with strong turnover in months which are traditionally dry for retailers. So strong have sales been throughout 2009 that Dimitri and his staff have treated themselves in true Pink Cat style to a new dedicated warehouse with improved tracking of orders throughout the process of picking, packing and posting. Its a big improvement, he says, for us and for our customers. 95% of our orders are now dispatched within 24 hours of being placed online. Key to this improved business model has been a major revamp of PinkCatShops well known website. The all-new
PinkCatShop.Com went online in July of this year with a seamless transtion from the old site. Immediately the improved stock management facilities it offered and smoother experience for the sites customers meant less time was spent by staff on maintaiance which paid dividends for customers. Our stock is constantly changing and expanding as we operate in an industry which brings new products to the market very quickly. Now were no longer playing catch-up but were driving the process, working hand in hand with our biggest suppliers to constantly surprise our customers in a good way! Economists predict there is still some way to go before the global economic climate returns to a period of continued growth but PinkCatShop has shown that for e-business a hiccup that might be a disaster for more traditional business models can be used to drive growth even in the most difficult times.About the Author:
