Places To Visit In Doha
Traveling to Doha will allow you to visit many places and enjoy even more things
. The following is a summary of some of the places you can go and a few of the things you can try in the city.
Doha Fort
Some people say that the Ottomans built Doha Fort in the 19th century (a place they retreated to when the Qataris defeated them in the battle of 1893). They apparently stayed in the square white fort until the First World War drove them out. It is not just the history of the fort but also its design that is interesting; hence you should take a closer look at it.
The Heritage Village
Located close to Rumeila Park, the Heritage Village will help you understand the traditional life of the locals. It is a mock-up of a traditional seaside settlement, featuring nets, a well and a dhow that is always under repair at the park's corner. Different activities are carried out in the village, particularly during festivals. People participate in various types of crafts in the afternoons and dance to music in the evenings. You will also have the chance to enjoy a variety of traditional dishes.
The Wind Tower
In the modern world of technological advancements, we tend to take some things for granted. For example, not much thought is given to the design of houses to enhance natural circulation of air since there are such things as fans and air conditioners. However, during the early times, the builders designed unique methods of making cool air circulate in rooms. The Wind Tower is the only place where you can see this ingenious design in Doha.
Dhow Boat Tours
You can take dhows at different places around the Corniche for a great trip around the bay. Ensure that you settle on a price before you ride off to avoid exorbitant charges.
Doha Zoo
The zoo, which is located just at the outskirts of the city, is home to many different animal species, both local and international. This is one of the few places where you will find a lush green environment in the city. A special area has been specifically prepared for children.
Wholesale Market
This is actually a collection of various markets, that deal with different products, between Haloul Street and Salwa Road. If you have good bargaining skills, you can find items you want at relatively lower prices. One of the things you'll notice here is the helpful nature of the traders. For example, if you do not get what you want from one trader, he will help you locate someone who has it and bargain on your behalf.
Some of the markets located here are vegetable markets, fish markets and live animal markets. Outside the markets are men with cardboards, ready to help you carry your purchase.
Other places that you can visit in Doha are Al Shaqab Stud, Qatar National Museum, Museum of Islamic Arts, Weaponry Museum, Waqif Art Center and Rumeila Park.
