Overview
The province of Gironain Spain is a part of the Catalonia region or autonomous community. It is located in the eastern part of Spain and it borders the provinces Lleida and Barcelona and also the Mediterranean Sea. The city Girona is the capital of the province Girona. The population in Girona province is about 690,000.
History
Iberians were the first inhabitants of this region. Later on Romans came and fortified this place and named it Gerunda. This was ruled by various cultures over a period of time and finally came under Holy Roman Empire's control.
The Jews were powerful in the 12th century and they built a large Kabbalistic school in this place. In 1492 the catholic kings drove away the Jewish Community. In 1809, Napoleon conquered this place. In the 19th century the city walls were destroyed.
Climate
This town has a Mediterranean Climate where you have wet winter and dry summer. Summer is cool because of the Mediterranean Sea.
