Politics is by no means a new phenomenon in life. It has been around for a long time and will never cease to exist. The so-called game of politics seems to remain the same. Perhaps the only real change it ever experiences is among the players themselves. This ancient social structure fails to maintain a permanent nature because people always strive to achieve their own selfish goals through it. A genuine politician is a rare breed and one can't help but wonder how different the world would be if more politicians stopped thinking about their own interests. People in the western world have probably borne the least torment in terms of the types of political games that they have been exposed to.
It may be hard to believe that some countries in the developing corners of the world are yet to know the true meaning of democracy. As much as it might be a topic that elicits frustration or anger, politics still has the power to shape how people interact and how large groups of individuals live together. Politics is not just a domain for people who head government agencies and plead for votes during election season. Within offices, homes and schools, politics plays a key role in how activities are carried out and sustained.
Many developed countries seem to forget that a number of decades ago, their political systems had completely shut down. Perhaps this is convenient amnesia. As they cry foul over unemployment and housing prices, the reality of economic depression that ravaged their nation several years ago evades them. Just over a century ago, the United States grappled with a war that virtually brought it to its knees. This same country now holds the title of super power and the people are quick to forget about how good their lives actually are. The political game is rarely palatable but it is wise to be thankful for the milestones that have been achieved.
