Ponmudi (which means The Golden Peak') is a beautiful hill station in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala in South India. This picturesque hill station is located 61 km north-east of Trivandrum city at an altitude of 1100 m. A part of the Western Ghats mountain range, Ponmudi is well-connected to Trivandrum by a narrow winding road. Ponmudi always has a very pleasant climate and is an excellent base for trekking and hiking. The hill station is also well-known for its lush tea-gardens.

Ponmudi is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Kerala and boasts of several fascinating attractions. The cool and soothing climate of the place offers the perfect environment for hiking. There are numerous peaks in Ponmudi, the important among them being the Motta peak, which is also a famous trekking place. Another prominent attraction near Ponmudi is the Golden Valley. Situated in a rich forest region, the place is known for its tropical vegetation. Here, you can also witness a variety of flora and fauna. Golden Valley is also an access point to the river Kallar. Kallar River enchants every visitor with its well-rounded pebbles, luxuriant flora, the pristine waters, colourful fishes and the absolute wilderness of the park. You can also take a visit to the mesmerizing Meenmutty Falls nearby or walk through the dense forest vegetation. And here's a wonderful sight that you wouldn't like to miss - the diverse avian species found in the region, ranging from Malabar hornbills to the Southern trongon. If you are fortunate enough, you can also catch a glimpse of the beautiful longtail paradise fly catcher!

Another major attraction in the region which is worth visiting is the Agasthyarkoodam, one of the highest peaks in the Western Ghats and the highest peak in the district. The peak is renowned for its wilderness, and can be accessed only with permission from the Forest Department.
